Animal Emergency Care

Who We Are

Volunteers at our Free Veterinary Wellness Clinics are community members who are passionate about making Whatcom county a kinder place for pets and their people.

While many of our medical volunteers work at our hospital, as the project has grown, we have been joined by vet assistants, veterinary technicians, and DVMs from many different practices in our area.

This project is also supported by many animal lovers who do not work in veterinary medicine, helping with event logistics and operations, and by connecting local families who attend our clinics to the services and support that their pets need.

What We Do

Animal Emergency Care organizes the Free Veterinary Wellness Clinic project which holds several no-cost veterinary clinics each year which provide essential veterinary services to families in Whatcom county who experience systemic barriers to care access, such as homelessness, transportation challenges, or the absence of a veterinary hospital within their community. This project is volunteer-based.

The no-cost services these clinics provide to local dogs and cats include important vaccinations, parasite prevention (flea and tick meds, de-wormer), and general wellness care from our veterinary medical volunteers. Our community partner organizations also provide access to free microchipping, low-cost or no-cost spay & neuter services, and free pet food and supplies.
