KMRE 88.3 FM is looking for volunteer news anchors to join our community radio news team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys local news, has a clear speaking voice, and wants to contribute to community media in Whatcom County.
KMRE news anchors read and record the station's daily newscast for broadcast. Anchors should be comfortable delivering news in an active, conversational style — engaging and energetic without sounding over-the-top or overly dramatic. News scripts are prepared and sent to anchors through the KMRE internal Slack channel. They then review the script, record the newscast, edit the recording as needed to ensure it is clean and ready for broadcast. They then insert the finished newscast into the station's playback system.
The time committment is one shift per week--Approximately 2–3 hours per week, depending on experience and familiarity with the process.
A consistent commitment to your assigned time slot is essential.Because KMRE's newscasts are scheduled for broadcast, reliability is one of the most important parts of this volunteer position. We are looking for people who can make a regular commitment to their assigned shift and communicate promptly if an occasional conflict arises.
You don't need professional broadcast experience. We are looking for volunteers who: Have a clear, understandable speaking voice. Can read news copy naturally and confidently. Can convey energy and interest without being overly dramatic.Are comfortable learning basic audio recording and editing. Can follow a script while making small adjustments for natural delivery. Are dependable and able to commit to a regular weekly shift. Have an interest in local news and community radio.Broadcast or audio experience is helpful, but not required.
Training will be provided on KMRE's recording, editing and playback process. If you have a good voice, enjoy telling stories and can make a dependable weekly commitment, we'd love to hear from you.
