We are seeking help with a variety of landscape projects.

The Blaine Senior Center serves 5 hot meals daily in the Center.  We are looking for friendly people to help one day a week for about an hour: serve food, bus tables, and prepare dishes for the dishwasher.  

The front desk is the welcoming introduction to the Blaine Senior Center.  This person welcomes members, ensures a friendly check-in, gives tours of the Center to potential new members, answers the phone and directs calls and in person questions to the appropriate resource.  The front desk also helps ensure a welcoming and clean environment and supports office staff when appropriate.

Volunteers and their dogs get involved by listening to students in the community practice their reading skills. Dogs are great listeners and children don’t feel judged when reading to them. We always need new volunteers and friendly pups!

We are a collection of individuals from northwest Washington and Vancouver, Canada. We are all volunteers, so we do not take any salaries, but we do have paid staff in Kenya. We have several major partners in Kenya that include some of the major game conservancies, and a nationwide group that provides digital education and support across the region.

AfreTech is a non-profit in the US/Canada, and a registered NGO in Kenya under the name of 'ARES'. Our focus in delivering high quality digital education solutions in parts of rural East Africa that lack quality schools, have limited/no power, and limited/no internet. The ARES education system is an offline system that provides a massive amount of high-quality content along with notebooks, projectors, networking, etc. It also includes a significant amount of training and local support. We have over 75 systems installed now across East Africa now and are growing rapidly. We have recently been certified by the Kenyan Government for use in public school systems. We are planning a major expansion of our projects in east Africa in 2023 and need to secure significant funding in order to accomplish that. We need a volunteer that can assist (or lead) us in the research and planning for this effort. The position will mostly be focused on researching quality funding opportunities and preparing documents to submit for application. The existing leadership team will handle presentations, etc. as needed. (However, if the volunteer is interested in participating in that they are welcome.) The work hours are completely flexible. The key to success is a passion for helping students in remote rural villages gain access to a quality education opportunity, and a comfort level with research, writing, and strong communication skills. Previous experience with fund raising is very helpful, but not a pre-requisite.   

Volunteer sorters and checkers will accept donations of gently used clothing, bed linens and towels.  Items will be sorted to determine cleanliness and amount of wear. Acceptable items will have no stain, rips or broken zippers. Items deemed unacceptable will be either discarded or forward on to Good Will. Acceptable items will be displayed on appropriate racks or bins.  During hours of operation volunteers will greet and assist customers with selection of items.  Volunteer will log in items chosen by customer, listing name and town and verifying the number of items is with the guidelines. At the end of the open hours of operation volunteer will sweep and tidy up the facility.

The Lynden Pioneer Museum needs docents and volunteers to help share our wonderful museum with visitors.  

No experience or special skills necessary, just a welcoming attitude!

Docents greet visitors, take admission, handle sales at the gift shop, and help start visitors on their self-guided tour of the museum.  

There are morning and afternoon shifts, and flexible schedules.  Come with a friend or make new ones! Visitors love our volunteers and docents and so do we!

Whatcom Intergenerational High School is the first public charter school in Whatcom County! We are a non-profit, mission-driven school focused on serving high school students from all backgrounds and life circumstances. This first year, we are opening to 9th and 10th grade (ages 13-16).

The Community Ally role is one where multigenerational community members from Whatcom County can volunteer to interact with high school students and fellow volunteers as each embarks on their own journeys of learning and growth. Student and community allies will have a communal responsibility of supporting each other in a holistic way, understanding that no part(s) of us are left out of a school environment and can have real impacts on our growth if not acknowledged.

In this role, volunteers will be able to participate in Morning Circle times, Phenomena Learning, off site excursions, and other WIHS events. We are looking for individuals who can donate 2 days a week for 2-3 hours a day. This person will also be invited to build relationships with current community allies through attending feedback sessions, appreciation gatherings, and cohort meetings.

Whatcom County Health Department in partnership with a community collaborative, Whatcom Taking Action,is seeking volunteers and/or interns to support health promotion through developing communication resources for families with a child that has a special health care need. The ideal candidate has a background in health promotion, health equity, education, communication, media or technology and/or a relevant background and experiences. 

Currently seeking volunteers that are available to assist in health promotion through the development and editing of family-friendly materials and providing administrative support. The schedule is flexible but ideally, 5-15 hours/week with a minimum 6-month commitment.

Ski to Sea is Bellingham and Whatcom County’s largest event, made up of seven legs from Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay. After a two-year hiatus, we are beyond excited to host this year's race on May 29th, 2022!

We are seeking volunteers for a number of positions at different locations around Whatcom County. The seven legs of the relay are: Cross Country Skiing, Downhill Ski/Snowboard, Running, Road Bike, Canoe, Cyclocross, and Sea Kayak. We also need volunteers to help with equipment transfer, packet pick-up, course clearing and the finish line.

You will get a FREE T-Shirt and FREE Lunch! You will also be invited to the Volunteer Appreciation BBQ (tentative and depending on current COVID situation) held the weekend leading up to the race.

Times needed are Monday, Wednesday, Fridays from 8:45 am to 10:00 am.  Mom's are on site!  For the nice weather days, there is a playground on the grounds that is toddler friendly!

Projects Include:

The Bellingham Farmers Market is still in a modified format due to covid and need one volunteer every Saturday April 3rd- December 18th. We are capping the number of customers that come into the pavilion at one time to 35 and would like a volunteer to greet and count those customers as they enter the pavilion. You must be able to stand the entire time, direct and or interact with customers with confidence. Although the location you'd be standing is covered you should still be prepared to weather and dress accordingly.

The Foothills Food Bank is looking for volunteers to help meet a rising need of home grocery delivery within East Whatcom County. Volunteers are needed on both Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9am-12pm to help ensure that all community members have access to quality and nutritious food. These volunteers will work alongside our Operations Manager to deliver food to community members who are unable to access our weekly Tuesday morning distribution.

Create friendship bracelets we can give to campers – both at camp, through the mail, or at hospitals! You can click here for tutorials on some of the main types of friendship bracelets, or make your favorite style.

Please feel free to be creative! We need patchwork quilts to decorate every twin-sized bed in our cabins. The size of the quilt should be 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. Please make sure these quilts are machine washable and are not too heavy or warm.

Warm Fuzzies, which each camper takes home at the end of camp, are sewn to a pre-made pattern. This ensures all fuzzies are consistent in size and shape. The children we serve often have severe allergies and sensitivities, which limits our use of supplies to only new fabric that is machine washable. The Community Boating Center (CBC) is seeking a passionate individual to serve as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2020 season. 

The CBC Volunteer Coordinator works with the CBC Operations Manager, and is responsible for the following:

The Community Boating Center (CBC) is a 501.c.3 nonprofit fostering safe small vessel recreation on Bellingham Bay. The CBC was founded in 2006 and began services to the public in 2007. Programs and services are available to the public. Much-appreciated tax-deductible donations, season-pass sales, dry-moorage fees, and rentals of sailboats and human-powered watercraft enable the CBC to provide the safety and skills education that are the core of the organization’s Mission. Volunteers are integrated into all aspects of the organization from maintaining boats, assisting with rentals, teaching educational classes, tabling and serving as board and committee members. 

The CBC is seeking board members to support and further the CBC's Mission. Board members meet on the third Monday; additional hours and meeting times are variable based on the season and the events in a given year. Board terms are three years, with the option to renew.

The WDRC Fundraising Events Committee is looking for community member(s) to volunteer in a committee support role. We are looking for highly-motivated individuals who love events to assist our committee in obtaining silent auction donations and dessert dash contributions for our annual Peace Builder Awards which takes place in November.

This event is the largest fundraiser our organization, and the Fundraising Events Committee plays a vital part in helping us meet our fundraising goals. The time commitment includes a one-hour committee meeting once a month, as well as several hours per month contacting prospects for donations and picking up items. Volunteers are needed immediately. Volunteering with the WDRC Fundraising Events Committee is a great introduction to Board service, while being a fun opportunity to connect with the community in a new way.

Now more than ever we are hosting events of all kinds in our all-ages alcohol free venue and classroom. From classes to music/art shows we got it all. For these events we often need folks to run the door (sometimes be a bouncer), keep an eye on the safety of attendees and the books, run sound, and hosting. Deliver hot meals to home bound seniors in the Lynden area.   This service not only provides a ready to eat, freshly prepared meal, but also a friendly contact and check-in each week day. One or more days a week, Monday - Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  Currently needed for Tuesdays and on call substitutes for all days.  Requires use of your own insured vehicle (mileage reimbursement available).  Familiarity with the Lynden/North county area is helpful, but not essential.

Assist cooking staff in preparing noon meal at community/senior center, one or more days a week, (open Monday through Friday).  Hours are approximately 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Must have or obtain Food Worker Card at www.foodworkercard.wa.gov. (Computer assistance available at the Center)            The card is good for 2 years and costs $10.

Bellingham Community Meal Program serves hot, nutritious FREE meals on the last Saturday of the month from January through October at Assumption Church, 2116 Cornwell Ave. Meals are for anyone who is hungry in our community and the county.

Individuals and groups can volunteer for a 2-3 hour shift between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Come once or come every month (or for any number of times that works for you).

All volunteers are invited to help us create a welcoming environment for our guests. BCMP strives to make our setting feel more like a restaurant than a soup kitchen, and much of this depends on our volunteers treating guests with dignity and respect. Volunteers may be doing any of the following activities: preparing food and/or cooking, setting up the dining room, serving beverages, serving food, bussing or resetting tables, washing dishes or pots and pans, assisting in the kitchen, taking down tables and chairs, cleaning up the dining hall and the kitchen areas.

We are looking for someone who has an interest and knowledge of growing population of baby boomers to lead exercise on a weekly basis. Assist with workshop and event preparation, outreach, presentations, grant research, reporting, record keeping, data entry, organization, and management of client data. Responsibilities can be tailored to the strengths and interests of the volunteer or intern. Minimum three month commitment, 5-15 hours/week.
