Opportunities from: The Volunteer Center of Whatcom County

Volunteer: Museum Assistants/Docents

Do you enjoy working with the public?  Are you interested in history and the role trains had in shaping our community? Are you a self starter? The Bellingham Railway Museum needs some enthusiastic helpers who can assist in a variey of roles in the Museum.

We serve the public every day and need some friendly people who can assist with taking admission, showing guests around, and helping operate model trains.  If you have an interest in history or any technical skills, those would be a huge plus because those subjects are integral to what we do.

Our need is to have dependable people who can commit to at least one day a week for the 5 hour block (we are open 12-5 Tuesday-Saturday). We are very flexible. Your role may be varied depending on the needs of the day and could range from greeting customers, light housekeeping, and answering questions about the items we have on display.  Even if you do not currently know much about history or the area, your skills may be a match if you are good with people.

All volunteers will be required to take the "Stewards of Children" training within the first month of service at the Museum. (The BRM will pay for the training.)

Volunteer: Fundraising Support Volunteer

The Bellingham Railway Museum is looking for an individual or team to assist with fundraising.  As a non-profit, we receive much of our support from individual contributions.  We are grateful for the support, but are looking to further develop our fundraising strategies so that we can keep up our mission into the future.

If you are a dedicated and creative person with an interest in fundraising or grant writing, we would like to hear from you, We are happy to provide you support in carrying out your goals, but are looking for a high level of initiative when it comes to: building key contact lists, creating a fundraising strategy, researching marketing tools, and creating a solid foundation for us to hold a fundraising event. We could also use some help with filing and organization of fundraising materials.  This could be a great addition to your resume.

Please respond by telling us a bit about yourself.  We can elaborate on some of our ideas once we've had a chance to talk to you a bit.  Thanks for looking!
